Christmas Holidays

We have been so busy with all the holiday stuff we have not done school in about a week and a half. I guess that is our Christmas holidays from school! We still have been doing loads of fun stuff and Dorian is getting very good at tracing letters and today he wrote L all by himself.
We have been baking cookies
which Dorian loves to make and also eat!
Here is a little snowman bracelet he made. We will be back to school Jan 3rd 2007, as thats when public school goes back and we wont have a bunch of extra kids over.

We have been looking at Connections Academy for Kindergarden for Dorian. It is a virtual public charter school. That means that he does school at home, but
we get all the curriculum through the public school and we get to talk to a public school teacher when we have questions. We think this will work out perfectly as we use Calvert curriculum now and the public school system uses Calvert for Connections Academy. Dorian seems to thrive on Calvert so far. There is also planned trips with the other students in ORCA that are in the local area. We like the freedom to take him on many field trips and not be locked in a class room for 8 hours.
We dont know if we will start him in Sep 2007 or Sept 2008.
If we dont think he is ready for Kinder we will keep doing PreK until Sept 2008.

Autumn

Our discussion the past week has been about Autumn.
Here is a sample of the conversation we have with Dorian!

Mum or Dad: What season are we in?
Dorian: Autumn!
Mum or Dad:What happens in Autumn?
Dorian: Its cold.... its dark outside and ummmmm, the leaves fall off the trees and then the birds fly away to warm places.

It has been raining almost non-stop the last two weeks. So, we have had to do alot of indoor activities. Last Wed we went to his friends new house and we made really cute "leaf" necklaces with beads. The kids all did a really great job! I will post pictures of that soon.

We also have been baking alot. Ash found an unreal deal on cake mix at a local grocery store and it was $10 boxes of cake mix FREE! So, we have had fun making those with a new stand mixer we got. Dorian loves baking. His favorite part is cracking the eggs then he loooves to eat the batter!

We have a busy week planned!
Mon-Ash is taking Dorian to the pet store and also to the movie store to pick out a movie.
Tue- Ash is taking Dorian to the zoo!
Wed- Craft play date with his friends Avery & Charlize! They are going to make hand turkeys!

Halloween Party

We had a small halloween party at Dorian's friend's Avery & Sissy's new house. The kids made cookies and then got to decorate them. Then they made cute little tea light pumpkin holders. They had mason jars and put glue and then pasted tissue paper on them. Then they put pumpkin faces on them. You put a tea light in them and they glow, they came out really cute.

Here is Dorian working on his letters. The last few days of school we have been working on the letters in his name, his address and birthday. We also have been working on left hand and right hand, which he mastered very fast. The music part is still his favorite!

Dorian also made himself into a kitty by getting the glue and putting it on his face and putting q-tips for whiskers! We also painted mini pumpkin, and I will need to get a photo of those to post.

Also, a photo of Dorian playing with his new math blocks. Then a photo taken his first day!

Preschool

Dorian will start his preschool curriculum mid October when we receive it. It is through a school called Calvert. The curriculm is all in one box and has EVERYTHING you need down to the paper clips for the "school" year.

It seems like he is ready for some structured learning. He does enjoy doing "school" and like to pretend he has homework! We are looking forward to starting and seeing how it goes. We will use the curriculum and also would like to keep learning alot of fun. We want him to love learning!
